This is a stupid post, i know. The mods can delete it after i get an answer. And believe me i am a bit embarassed to be asking......
My gf and i are arguing over how to pronounce the french clothing company lacoste. (we were just at the beachwood store today....whoa expensive!!)
[u4b5774bdd1]Luh - cost - eh[/u4b5774bdd1]
luh rhyming with duh
cost exactly like the word
eh canadian
She says it is french so, Le-cost
None of the sales people there talked to me because i look poor so i dont know. They probably thought i was the driver.
By the way, beachwood place sucks, sucks, SUCKS to all the people living in ohio. Snotty sales people looking only for comission.
Anyone here French or just know?

"la" as in pronounced "luh" or "laaaah"?
hehehhehe

It's la-cos-te but the t in the coste is not pronounced to the extent of a Canadian eh. Imagine a frenchie with an accent saying cost.

so "la" as in "la la land"
"cos" as in "cost" without the "t"
and "te" as in "tea"
???
i agree except for the "tea" part

i agree with Admin. I'm call it Luh-cost. but i guess I could be wrong... I've never actually owned those clothes or been to a store (do they have their own store or only sold at others?). Who knows, i've seen a few people wear their line though...

I will never go in that store again. I do not want to give them my business.

I lived in France for 5 years and speak French fluently so I know exactly how it's pronounced, I'm not guessing.
La is pronounced la of course. As for the te, pronounce like how 'le' is pronounced in French (like in Le Mans - not eh or ey - more like a sound between e and u), but maybe a bit shorter.
EDIT In the end, just pronounce it like the way you like, you're not French. However, luh-cos-teh sounds like you're trying too hard and people should make fun of you.

That's the American way. French words are hardly ever pronounced correctly. Like 'deja vu'.
Fuck this shit. I'm out of this thread.

I said I would leave this thread but like I said, that's the American way, which is fine. It is still far from the correct pronunciation which I thought you wanted (since you asked if people spoke French and were trying to add a eh to the ending)... Some shmuck working in a lacoste store is not going to know that.

Lacoste as in the company that created the Polo? And then their company lost it appeal and was being sold in department stores such as Macys and WalMart. Oh, and then the company that decided to pull the shirts they were welling in WalMart and sell them in Nordstroms and their own stores in fewer quantity so people would pay a shitload for exclusitivity for the same shirt people used to buy in WalMart for $10? Oh yeah, that company.

Well, I remember commercials for the brand many years ago, and I specifically remember it being pronounced as...
LUH-K[ib625dd0d6c]AH[/ib625dd0d6c]ST
That's not to say that is how Mr. LaCoste pronounces his own name, just how it was pronounced in the commercial. Although, I'd assume they'd try to get that correct as possible.
It's also a bit different than "cost" as some of you posted. I, as an American, pronounce "Cost" as KAWST, which is not the same as K[ib625dd0d6c]AH[/ib625dd0d6c]ST.
