It's something i've thought of doing in a while, hopefully the thread gets a lot of responses. Feel free to black out anything you don't want the rest of us seeing.
Here's mine (reduced by 50% in paint), no real surprise...

Trust me, I don't play it. Since CS was the cornerstone for the gaming group I've been a member of for 5+ years now, I felt obligated to at least allow Steam to show the icon. P I've never liked CS myself. At the time, as far as online shooters go, I was into Tribes2, Rainbow Six, Quake, et al, up through BF2 recently. But for awhile all I've done online is RPG stuff (DAoC, GW).

TryingToGetPaid, I use that same theme on my Windows XP partition. I switch back and forth between that and Vista since I like how WindowsBlinds lets you customize your font for everything. Nothing too spectacular here. Have XP Royale theme on dual monitors. As you can see, my second monitor can only do 1024x768(Gateway 2000 monitor from 1996 P ) while my lappys monitor does 1400x1050, but hey, it works for me.

how can a weak system perform that many tasks?

It's a little application called "
Stardock Objectdock Plus[=http//www.stardock.com/products/objectdock]Stardock Objectdock Plus". It's awesome. It acts just like the toolbars on MacOS...when you hover over the icons, they get bigger, and when you click one, it bounces. It's configurable many different ways and themes and such. It's cool. I basically have the "whatever toolbar" on the bottom, and my "Microsoft Office toolbar" on the top just for easier access to my office applications. )
@chrome, how did you get those CPU status widget things in that toolbar? Because the software only comes with a few...where can you download more? Thanks. )

It's Compiz, which comes installed in Beryl. I've got 4 workspaces, which are on a cube. Rather than simply switching workplaces, you can rotate the cube to switch to your desired workspace.
There's also some task-switching within the workspace similar to Vista's, and it's very tweakable. I love it.

Let me ask you guys, what are the specs on some of your computers that are running vista and like 10 different widgets?
I want to keep my system performance up while still being able to have some of these cool items.
I'm running XP with classic settings with 1GB ram with an AMD Athlon 64 3700+. My running programs are always Aim 6.0, Aim 5.9, and Windows Live messenger (MSN). I Also almost always have a few FireFox windows open along with a few tabs in each, and ThunderBird checking my emails all the time. Symantec Antivirus is also always running in the background.
Am I Ok with the specs I have? Can I still run these neat programs without sacrificing too many resources? Or should I upgrade my ram?
My second question is about running an additional display. I have a regular 19" Acer LCD monitor which is what I'm currently using, and right next to it I have a 42" Panasonic Plasma (from I-Deal) with a VGA input. How do I go about running dual displays? Is it even worth it to run dual displays, or is it too much of a difference in screen sizes that it becomes difficult to do this? How do I go about running the additional display on my computer?
I appreciate any help given.
Thanks.

My system is similar to yours with 1 GB RAM. The widgets do take memory but not to the point where they slow down my everyday use. When using large programs like Photoshop, I sometimes disable them. Other than that you should be fine. There is a huge difference between your LCD and Plasma, so I don't think it will be visually pleasant to set up dual monitor but it is doable. You should get you another 19" and you should have a nice setup. It's pretty easy to run multiple monitors. For dual display, all you need is a video card that has two outputs. All you have to do is plug in your monitors and Windows will automatically detect you have two monitors hooked up. You just go to display settings tab in your "display properties" window and set up your dual monitors the way you want them.
samz465
25-11-2007 12:34:07
Well my Acer LCD is being sent out for warranty. I'm actually currently using a Compaq 17" CRT. Maybe I'll keep the CRT and the LCD and run dual monitors once the Acer comes back.
Where can I get a cheap Video card that can do that?
My current model number of my computer is HP A1230N.
Thanks guys.

Noooo. ObjectDock is for Windows.
AWN and Kiba are the 2 most commonly used docks, I used AWN mostly. I haven't booted into Ubuntu in quite a few days though. I haven't found a good way to manage my Zune or wife's iPod through it, so I stick to Windows.

Firefox is nearly full-screen on the secondary monitor. I tend to leave windows unmaximized because I'm usually working with many open windows at once, and having them unmaxed lets me move them around as I need to see more than one.

Edit -- Oh I get what you mean. Sorry, I have no idea how to do that on a Mac.

Not sure it's what you're looking for, but Winkey + M will minimize all windows. Not sure if it will bring them all back up though. I'm currently using Ubuntu wink

He demonstrated it on a Mac, he wants to do it on Windows. ;)
There is no built-in way to do it on Windows. However I'm pretty sure that I've seen utilities that will do it.
Linux + Compiz (i.e. Ubuntu with desktop effects enabled) will do it, but I don't have a Compiz-enabled box here at work so I can't look up the key combination. It's a feature that has to be enabled in the Compiz settings.

i need to put linux on my box anyway. i'm sure most distros will have a feature like that somewhere or made by someone.

A friend of mine just sent me a link to these wallpapers. The date and clock actually change in real time on the desktop. You have to install a small app and download your wallpapers. If you're interested, go
