My laptop screen has started showing mucho dirtiness (fingerprints, spittle, etc. etc.), now I am like a small child in a large forest facing a dragon, i.e. I don't want to damage the screen by cleaning it, what should I use to complete this mission successfully?

A "moist cloth" is the PC thing to say here. ;)

I don't know the coating of every screen, but alcohol is ok on some, and might mar others. A water soaked cloth that's been rung out should be ok, though.

Don't even think of using acetone...

Ohhhhh sure, that has the bonded superhydopolyethylene coating. You can easily clean that with hydrocloric acid.... ;)

Seriously, I don't know any lcd off the top of my head to say what it can take. A moist cloth is usually universally acceptable.

Just don't press hard...

I use alcohol pads and that was also what I was told by others too.

I was always afraid to clean my screen. So it just stayed super dirty till I cracked the LCD and got a new one. lol

There is LCD specific cleaning solution sold at every office supply store. I have a bottle of cleaner from Staples that I've had for 3 years and I use it once a month or so.

I've also read that a 5050 solution of isopropyl alcohol and water does the same thing.

Just a damp (water) lint-free cloth works just fine for me.

dont use windex! if you have any anti-glare on your monitor (typically CRTs) it will remove it. just use water or rubbing alcohol.

Sure is. You can't get a LCD screen any cleaner than brand new! lol
