Glad you posted it.

When it comes to basic spelling errors...like missing letters and the like...I am glad Firefox points them out )
I.E. It corrects them. Lol...had to put that. ?

'tis true, I am a [b7b126b581d]grammer[/b7b126b581d] Nazi, but [b7b126b581d]your [/b7b126b581d]making yourself look like [b7b126b581d]a[/b7b126b581d] idiot.[/quote7b126b581d]

Also, the irony [i7b126b581d][b7b126b581d]was[/b7b126b581d][/i7b126b581d] international.[/quote7b126b581d]

'S'ok. I missed that one too. oops
I always fuck up 'i.e.' versus 'e.g.' But I don't think many people notice that sort of thing. Some of the things there were just dumb (i.e. different from vs. different than), though.

I hate improper grammar, but I use it sometimes because of the people where I came from (bunch of hicks). This site has almost every mistake you can make, and explains them http//wsu.edu/~brians/errors/errors.html

so what? i can make a site and put
"citing sources iz lame" -Daggoth, noted FiPG poster
it doesn't mean you said it.
wikiquote[=http//en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Mark_Twain]wikiquote has your quote listed as "attributed" to MT and that [quoteee9ef6463a]Twain is one of those major iconic figures to whom many statements become attributed; unsourced attributions to him should usually be treated with some skepticism, and [iee9ef6463a]often[/iee9ef6463a] a great deal of it.[/quoteee9ef6463a]emphasis in context.
there is no evidence that he said it. it doesn't even seem like something he'd say.

First a correction to that list.
"If..., then..." statements [b1ddf2b9245]are [/b1ddf2b9245]grammatically correct. Check with your English teacher on that.
Second a correction to the bonus pet peeve.
"Hit and miss" is a correct phrase if it's being used in a context describing multiple actions. For example "Door-to-door vaccuum cleaner sales are [i1ddf2b9245]hit and miss[/i1ddf2b9245]." In other words, sometimes you hit [b1ddf2b9245]and [/b1ddf2b9245]sometimes you miss.
One of my biggest pet peeves is "[i1ddf2b9245]for all intensive purposes[/i1ddf2b9245]". I have many, but that's the one that comes to mind right now.
Another HUGE pet peeve is people who correct others when they obviously don't understand the fact that the English language has many grammatically correct ways to express the same concept.

I generally can't stand incorrect grammar, but I've also accepted the fact that languages are constantly changing. What is totally wrong right now may become the norm in the future...try reading untranslated English literature from several hundred years ago and it's like reading a foreign language! ?

yeah, that one bugged me a bit, too. it's certainly abused a lot, but there are situations when it's both appropriate and less awkward to use the full if/then construction

gotta disagree with you there. how do you hit AND miss? you can't both "sell" and "not sell" a vacuum cleaner. it's pretty binary. it's "hit or miss".

Well on a forum of laid back proportions I do not mind incorrect spellings, run on sentences, or sloppy sentence structure. But if this was a forum of my bosses, my speech would be entirely different. But as FIPG stands right now - I don't care.

When I'm concentrating, my spelling/grammar is usually quite good. I do tend to notice other people's mistakes but in this day & age, I'm pretty much used to it. However, there are people who just CANNOT make it through a sentence. One or two spelling errors, while annoying, are understandable. The people who write stuff that you can't figure out after 5 minutes of trying should be castrated.
