Your thoughts?

Steroid user, but still a hell of a player.

Cheater but not much you can do about it. A-Rod will smash the record if he plays into his 40s...

arod is the man

so basically.... of all the people on the roids..... barry is the best... so ... if nobody was on roids... barry wud still be awesome.... arod wud be good too.....

when comparing to hank.... well... there is no comparison.... hank wasnt on roids

Exactly, he is still one of the greats, albeit a probable cheater.

Look at it this way

Barry Bonds + roids=one of the greatest EVER

Barry Bonds - roids=still an amazing hitter, one of the best offensive players

Wow, that flaxseed oil really helps, huh?

I know people say that eveybody uses the stuff but I lost all respect for Bonds, McGuire, Sosa, and others since they lied. At least Giambi fessed up like a man. Aaron should keep his record.

eh.... times have changed... roids are a part of baseball sadly enough.... i play personally.... and you even see steroid usage on high school levels, all the time on the college level, and i can only imagine how many use in the pro's but just arent talented enough to be recognized... bonds had talent plus roids = attention.... someone like david wright has not as much talent as bonds + roids = hes pretty good

If Hank Aaron had been doping, his record would be a far reach from 756.

Therefore - comparing Aaron to Bonds is like comparing an abacus to a laptop.

There hasn't been any deaths directly related to steroids. However, under uneducated, irresponsible, and prolonged use damage can be done to the liver and kidneys.

I've pretty much given up on baseball these days. The "big" kids on my high school team are on roids. Its so fucking stupid, these guys (majors) are already making 8 figures why do they feel the need to bulk up so fucking much. It ruins the game to know that there olny doing what there doing by shooting up. If I pay $50 for my ticket I expect to see someone do something that most people can't without sticking a needle in there ass. Barry obivously was clean when he started I don't understand why he started using them. Just to set records? Psh.. records can be broken without the use of steriods. Either you have it or you don't..

The olny people I can somewhat understand using them (and even still I hate the idea) are prehaps college players. Generally speaking if you don't get signed out of high school your chances of making it in the pro's aren't very good.

kidd2108

09-08-2007 00:32:03

^Asterisk. Meaning all records Bonds/any probable steroid user breaks should include one. So for example in the record book the man w/ most HR's would be Bondsli with and li next to his name. Also, guys like Palmerio and his 500 hr's would probably have an li next to his name. Thats why TTGP posted that image above. I dont think its nothing official tough.

To be honest, I am still torn between the whole situation. After you look at the facts, Bonds did take steroids during a part of his career in which it may have helped him perform. Judging off that the records he has set are tainted due to his use and he does not deserve the credit at all for these records. The fact that Hank Aaron could do this without steriods is a testament to his ablilities.

The other spectrum is that the few years Bonds used are over. For the last couple of years, he has been hitting clean and hitting good. About 25% of me respects his ability to hit the homerun and the other 75% lacks the respect that he used steroids and that will always tarnish the legacy of Barry Bonds.

Until the guy tries to sell [i4a3dad8295]or insure[/i4a3dad8295] the ball, it's just an old used baseball that the guy happened to find at the ballpark - value=0.

jeagle82

09-08-2007 08:05:34

What are the estimates on the value of the ball? Last I read it was somewhere hovering around $400,000 - $500,000. Is that still accurate?

turbohim

09-08-2007 09:04:34

They say $300 to $500k which (hear me out) is cheap. Considering Mark McGuire's ball went for $3.3 MILLION

jeagle82

09-08-2007 10:17:30

yeah, I can't believe the value is estimated so low! I figured it be at least $1 Million!

tjwor

09-08-2007 14:20:08

mcgwire's ball would be worth much less today i'd say... the guy better sell it soon, it will go down in price within a few years...

Sweeney2066

09-08-2007 16:03:30

After I read the article on his mechanical arm + steroids.. I don't really give him much credit for breaking the record.

Steroids are illegal and something illegal taints the record like crazy.

I too would have thought the ball would have been worth more. However, you have to remember the fact that it isn't even a record setting ball. Right now isn't the record 757? Granted the 757 ball isn't going to be worth anything significant considering the record could change tomorrow. All the 756 ball is is a record breaker. The real money is in the last one he hits. Probably between #800-850. And even then the value of that ball will probably drop rappidly considering whatever bonds sets the record at it will likely be broken by Rodriguez or someone else relatively soon after.

Personally I would rether own Ruths 714 ball over whatever bonds sets the record at. IMO the 714 ball is far more infumis than whatever bonds sets it at.
