No, but some have more reason to than others. I was trying to point out that he is well liked and girl problems shouldn't be a reason to commit suicide.

He is good in certain roles but he always plays the exact same guy. Wedding Crashers, You Me and Dupre, Permanent Midnight, Royal Tenenbaums, etc. It gets old...

True, but to go to that extreme to seek that type of attention (especially someone like a popular celebrity that has all the attention they could possibly want, and then some), is a sign of a potentially serious condition. Depression, anxiety disorders, etc. Nobody is immune from mental illness, and celebrities are under a completely different kind of stress than most of us are. I seriously doubt this was a simple publicity stunt, it's not like he needs it -- his career is doing pretty well and he just finished a new movie. I hope he gets whatever help he needs.

But I do find it interesting that this Canadian article was mentioning the suicide angle first thing this morning, but not the mainstream US media outlets (well, at least not CNN, which is the only one I keep up with). I've been following the story off-and-on on CNN.com all day today and suicide has not been mentioned once. If he were walking down the sidewalk dazed, with a slit wrist, like the other article stated, you'd think there would be witnesses saying so. But according to CNN, his neighbor just said he saw a firetruck and ambulance pull up to his house, and take their time about getting the stretcher out. The only hint as to the possible problem comes from the last update at CNN.com[=http//www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/Movies/08/27/people.owen.wilson.ap/index.html]last update at CNN.com

Strangely enough, I always wondered if it got difficult being the chill, happy-go-lucky guy that he appears to be. People like that don't like showing vulnerability, and bottling up emotions to maintain the charade is demanding.

Wow! Shocking and sad...it's just so far removed from his image. Poor guy, I hope he gets the help he needs. Even though Wolfeman is right and he does always seem to play the same characters, I've always enjoyed that one character he plays. I wonder if his career will get derailed because of this...

I just saw this today as well. It is very depressing, because I think he is an amazing actor. I hope he gets all the help he needs to fight the demons within him.

I liked Shanghai Noon better than Shanghai Knights. What about Behind Enemy Lines and Wedding Crashers though. You can't beat those movies.
