The DS was meant in no way to be a successor to the GameBoy and it appears as if Nintendo's ready to introduce something new a tricked out GameBoy SP http//www.engadget.com/entry/1234000733033942/

Yesterday Engadget reported they may make an entirely new portable console....

Yeah Nintendo has always been very clear that the DS was a new systen and not meant to be the "New Gameboy". However it does have the ability to play gameboy advance games so eh. I kind of figured something was up when they barely advertised the ds in comparison to the money they are still spending on advertising the SP. (I think their trying to make as many sells as possible before they really try and sell the DS or Before they announce a new handheld)

yeah, the new gameboy, is suppose to cooperate (or whatever) with Nintendo's new console, Showcasing @ this years E3... looks like ppl wated their money on the DS, unless you got it for free D

Yes, now I'm quite sad I appeared to have wasted my referrals ). However, it IS free, and the touch screen is QUITE an innovation. It's supposed to look and have graphics nearly as good as the PSP, but I won't hold my breath, considering GameCube was lightyears behind the PS2 and XBox and how the DS is lightyears behind the PSP. Nintendo's got some catch-up to play.

well I LOVE my DS the graphics are amazing and the way they use the touchscreen in some of the games is simply genius(blowing on the screen to create wind to move a sailboat) well anyways I still love my DS regardless

You can blow on the screen??? Which game is this? I got SuperMario 64DS from DS4Free along with my DS. Both should arrive within the next 2 days. I can return the game and buy another. PoPoJiJo, any game recommendations?

Super Mario 64 is by far my favorite DS game, 30 new stars and you start off as yoshi and can switch between mario, luigi, and wario for different techniques. The mini games (and theirs a ton of them, catch the rabbits to unlock more) are awesome great for when your bored I reccomend "wanted". As for a second game reccomendation Segas Feel the magic while lacking a plot utilizes every aspect of the ds souch as voice response, blowing on the screen etc and for $20 its not bad. Its just a series of minigames but it really shows off what the DS has to offer. D

Explain the whole blowing on the screen thing. I didn't think the DS was THAT responsive. The voice activated thing seems pretty cool too. Maybe the DS is cooler than I thought! I only got it to keep me happy until I got my PSP ).

I mean exactly how it sounds for the boat example the harder you blow the faster and more distance the boat will go and in the direction you blow. Another mini game from feel the magic involves blowing out candles and that relies on timing how fast and where your blowing or if you dont want to blow you can always just rub the screen but wheres the fun in that. In Pac-roll they use the touch screen as a rollerball. Its amazing tech

That's incredible...

Interesting, I'll have to reconsider my decision not to pursue a DS.

I think Nintendo runs the risk of over-saturation. Console people want to invest in one machine and use it for a long while, not keep buying the latest and greatest new machine that serves the same basic purpose. As elegant as the DS is, I'm not sure that it's had enough time to get established. Essentially, the DS would be competing with the PSP, the GBA, and whatever new thingy this is.

The new thingy would REPLACE the current gameboy line. And you're correct, why should Nintendo release the DS and then make a better system? I have a feeling that these 2 systems will appeal to different groups, the DS to the "under-15" crowd, and their new GameBoy to the "over-15" crowd, like the PSP.

You're probably right that they're partly going for different markets--we can't ignore the timing and the probable success of the PSP.

As to the "replacement" factor, I'm not so sure. The GBA and SP are still out there and will still be sold for quite a while. Also, there's no reason to think that new games won't be developed as well. With the massive established user base, the idea that any new gizmo following the DS would [i5386d81b10]actually[/i5386d81b10] replace the GBA/SP is another matter.

Well, it will suck if they stop making GB SP games. My little brothers just got for christmas. It seems ounce you get the money for a certain system, a new one comes out...and you cant buy games for it.

all systems get replaced eventually I mean nintendo has had the nes, super nintendo, virtual boy, gameboy, gameboy pocket, gameboy color, N64, gameboy advance and their three current systems the DS, Gameboy Advance SP, and Gamecube and since nintendo has already announced replacements for the gamecube and the gameboy advance then yes when they come out people will switch over they always do besides in my opinion the gameboy advance is already outdated since the DS can do everything it can but better. True their will always be die hard gamers like me who still use their old systems(I still have my original NES and the box it came in) but the majority of people will move on [/quote0f240d5c67]
