So I saw that movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still" in the Imax theatre the other day and I was EXTREMELY impressed with Imax.

I hadn't seen an Imax film in at least 10 years and I'm sure quality has improved greatly since then.

The sound was so LOUD and the screen so BIG. I felt like I was a kid - Imax is the way movies were meant to be watched.

Anyway, the previews included a preview to the Watchmen (which I had already seen before Dark Knight) but seeing this preview in the Imax made me want to see it even more. So I am going to see it, but I am going to see it in Imax.

I can't wait for it to come out either. Anyone else going to see it in Imax? Or have any Imax experiences to share? If you have never been to an Imax go and watch a movie (not an educational flick, those are lame) and you will be thoroughly surprised and impressed.

I've been to several IMAX 3D movies, but none in 2D. Our local IMAX doesn't seem to get many of the blockbuster movies, or if they do, they're for a very short run.

And I wouldn't call the educational stuff lame, some of it is quite impressive in 3D. Of course we enjoy educational programming and watch it on TV anyway, so seeing it on an 80ft screen in 3D is a bonus.

I've seen some discovery place imax movies and I can't imagine watching a full length movie on one, I was so dizzy when I left after watching like a 20 minute movie

Saw 300 at the Imax here in Tulsa was fantastic.

Also saw Lord of the Rings (The third one).

Completely agree with you that it is a great experience.

Well, I do admit the educational videos are pretty cool, but when you compare them to an actual movie I do believe there is a big difference maybe not in video quality but definitely in audio. It's a hell of a lot louder.

Yea, When I was younger we had taken field trips to see like an aquatic imax film in 3d. Kind of cool. Not sure if this is related, or is "imax" but the screen went all the way around a giant movie theater like space. And it made a circle around you, the whole screen. Kind of pointless since your looking forward at all times, but still cool. 3D fishes for the win.

Sounds like IMAX DOME or OMNIMAX, which I've never seen. The first was pretty much a custom retrofit of a planetarium, at the request of the San Diego Hall of Science.

According to that, it doesn't actually extend behind you, just above and around to the sides, so you may have been sitting in an actual planetarium that had been retrofitted. The Terminator attraction at Universal Studios was similar, but I don't remember it actually rising too far above, just around to the sides.

I saw The Dark Knight in IMAX, it was pretty sweet.

The Dark Knight is back in IMAX for a bit as a re-release. See that if you can because some scenes were shot specifically for IMAX with an IMAX camera (if you have the DVD or Blu-Ray, it's basically, anytime the black bars go away on the tv screen is something shot directly in IMAX). It looks amazing.

I've also seen Attack of the Clones, Spider-Man 3 and Glitter in IMAX (OK, I was just kidding about Glitter).
