So, I figured I'd be an early adopter and went out and purchased the Motorola Droid yesterday.

For the few hours that I've used it, I can tell you that I am in love with it already!

Anyone else going to be purchasing it or looking into it?

I think I saw the commercials for it. Is that the device that advertises it can do everything the iPOD can't? If so, how would you rate it against an iPOD touch?

I just checked out the website. It didn't really look all that much better than my crappy instinct. The screen is big, but outside of that, the web browsing didn't seem all that much better than what I've got.

I'm no Apple fan, but I would still rather get an iPhone if I was going to leave sprint.

My best friend just got that phone yesterday...I have to say it's the most incredible device I've used yet. I'm kinda jealous and I wanna get rid of my Blackberry 8900 for it. Shame I don't have Verizon. (

Do be honest, I don't have an iPod touch and have only played around with my friend's iPhone so I am not the best person to ask to compare the two devices. I also really like Apple too and was holding out on getting the iPhone when it came to Verizon but when I saw this, I figured I'd jump on it.

As far as using the phone, it feels very similar to the iPhone the way it touches and whatnot. For me the slide-out keyboard is a plus since I don't always like the touch keyboard. Other than that, that's the only real difference I notice between the devices.

One thing I don't like about the phone is that youtube videos don't fill the screen. Hopefully this will be fixed on a software update, but it's a minor issue really.

Other than that, I am really enjoying it. Battery life lasts pretty good too if you aren't using the device 24/7.

hehehhehe

I saw someone on the train with it the other day, it looks pretty nice. I'd get it over the iphone just because everybody has an iphone (yeah I know it's great, app store, 100,000 apps, etc.).

Motorola's gonna live or die with this phone, huh?

The early reviews I've seen are pretty positive. I'm an iPhone 3G owner but I'm very happy to see some stronger competition. It can only lead to cheaper, better phones.

My SO and I would both get iPhones, if they weren't on AT&T. With reports of an iPhone for VZW in Q3, and the Droid, I like where VZW is heading.

I have so much gay love for my 3GS that I can't fathom how a phone could possibly be better. I do agree with Keith though. Competition is good.

I just synchronized my contacts from my old phone to Gmail! What a breeze! I just downloaded the .csvurl==http://=http:///url file from Verizon's automatic backup thing then imported the CSV into GMail. Then it asked to merge 6 of my contacts whose e-mails I already had, then it updated into my phone and merged THOSE contacts with the contacts I got from facebook so most of my contacts have pictures! SWEET

That reminds me of an app I have that grabs people's pics off facebook and makes their profile pic your contact pic.

Yeah the BlackBerry does that automatically too once you set up Facebook on it.

Yeah, my friend had showed me that. I know that it's not exclusive to the droid, but it's new to me and a very handy feature (for any phone).

Plus it's cool because now I have most of my contact's e-mails, phone #'s, and facebook profile/status. Now I need to get everyone's birthdays. I wonder if it will remind me.

How's the turn by turn? I saw on their website that is looked like Google Street View powered the turn by turn. Looked bad ass, but I who knows if that was just for marketing purposes.

I haven't used it yet because I don't want to waste the battery, but I just got a car charger so I'll test it out and let you all know. I already have a GPS so for me I don't really need it, although it IS nice because my GPS' maps are a couple years old. So it is a kind of "just in case" feature for me.

I know for Blackberries as well that the Facebook application imports data into the Calendar for birthday alerts, etc. Maybe it's the same for the Droid.

So the GPS is not too bad. The only thing I don't like about it is it doesn't ring a bell or something when you are at the point you need to make a turn. My Magellan will beep when I hit the point which I need to change roads. Maybe you don't need it, but I like it because it lets me know that I am actually making the right move (or not).

Also, it doesn't tell you if your destination is on left/right which I think is pretty crucial.

Other than that, not bad at all.

I just bought the Droid HTC yesterday and I am loving it so far. My last phone was pretty basic, but I liked it because it was so small and bomb-proof. So even though I've been able to upgrade since August, I've been holding off until I found a phone I really liked. So far I like it, but it's so unintuitive that I've had to google for instructions on pretty much anything. Otherwise, it's a pretty sweet phone, all the functionality of the iPhone but a little smaller (I have the HTC).

Anyone have any recommendations for app downloads? I've downloaded a few of the essentials/basics (e.g. Pandora, Bank of America, etc.), but haven't delved too deeply in the app store yet.

(Sorry to bump an old thread.)

Okay, so after 4 days of use I'm considering returning the Droid. I haven't had many problems with any of the bells and whistles of the phone, but the basic features of the phone are kind of a pain in the ass. None of its problems are a deal breaker, but there are so many little issues that simple things like phone calls turn into a pain in the ass.

e.g.
• No way to see at what time a conversation took place, or how long it lasted.
• For some reason, if you call a number that isn't in your phone book, it lists it as "Unknown" and then puts the actual number in a smaller font underneath.
• If I want to do anything with the phone, I have to first push the power button to take it out of power save mode, and then push another button to actually use the phone.
• Difficult to adjust volume on the fly. On my last phone, I only had to push 1 button to set it to vibrate; on the Droid it takes 5 buttons (seriously, wtf).

Etc. If I had to summarize my experience with the phone so far, it would be Nothing on the phone is terrible, but every task has about 2 extra irrelevant steps.

Just wondering if other Droid users can offer their experiences with the phone, and if it's something I just need to get used to, or if it's going to continue to be this annoying? The only reason I chose the Droid over the iPhone is that it's slightly smaller—worth it if everything else is equal, but not worth it if I have to deal with shit like that all the time.

I happened to get a shitty model and Verizon won't replace it. They just like to reset it and blame it on applications I download.
