For a bit, I wondered whether their dominance would last, but I just don't see any legitimate competition out there. They've achieved the holy grail of marketing, colloquial branding... "iPod" is now synonymous with mp3 player to many people.

You know, back in the mid and late 90's, I'd never have guessed that mp3 players would reach this level of ubiquity. It's amazing, really.
