The iPods do NOT require a signature from the recipient to UPS...I don't know about the desktop PCs or the flatscreens, though. If you aren't home when UPS comes with your iPod, they will leave it at your front door unless you leave a note to have them take it to a neighbor's house.
actually i think it depends on what the person who shipped it wants
they can either leave it or take it back to the station

It depends on if the shipper required a signature to deliver the package. If he/she does not require a signature and no one is available, it is up to the UPS driver whether or not to leave the package on your doorstep or leave you that dreaded "we were here but you weren't bitch" notice.

Since Gratis do not require a signature the UPS guy uses his own sense of judgement - looks around the neighborhood, if it seems like a good enough neighborhood he will leave it by the door however, if it is like the Southside of Chicago he will most probably take it back to the station and leave a notice.
